Electrical Director – Technical Advisory Group

Position Overview
The Electrical Director is responsible for governing the electrical infrastructure strategy, technical standards, and operational integrity of mission-critical electrical systems across the EMER data centre portfolio.
This role provides electrical engineering authority across all campuses, ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of medium-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems including utility interfaces, switchgear, generators, UPS systems, and associated protection schemes.
The Electrical Director works closely with Data Centre Operations (DCO), Reliability Engineering, Design, and construction teams to ensure electrical systems are designed, operated, and maintained in accordance with global/local engineering standards and reliability requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Engineering Governance
- Establish and maintain regional electrical engineering standards and technical governance.
- Ensure consistent electrical design and operational practices across all campuses.
- Provide electrical engineering authority for non-standard operations and electrical system modifications.
Electrical Infrastructure Performance Oversight
- Monitor performance and operating conditions of critical electrical systems across the portfolio.
- Identify abnormal operating conditions and reliability risks.
- Support reliability teams in analysing electrical system performance data.
Electrical Failure Analysis & Incident Support
- Provide technical leadership during investigation of electrical incidents.
- Support root cause analysis for failures involving switchgear, UPS, generators, and protection systems.
- Ensure lessons learned from electrical incidents are shared across the organisation.
Electrical Design & Technical Standards
- Provide engineering guidance for electrical system design in new data centre developments.
- Review and approve electrical design standards and equipment specifications.
- Ensure electrical infrastructure designs meet reliability and redundancy requirements.
Electrical System Protection & Safety
- Ensure proper protection coordination across electrical distribution systems.
- Review protection schemes including relay settings and coordination studies.
- Support safe electrical switching practices and operational risk mitigation.
Electrical Lifecycle & Asset Management
- Support lifecycle planning for electrical infrastructure assets.
- Evaluate equipment aging risks and replacement strategies.
- Assist operations teams in prioritising electrical upgrades.
Vendor & OEM Technical Oversight
- Provide technical oversight of electrical equipment vendors and OEMs.
- Review vendor performance and technical recommendations.
- Support resolution of systemic electrical equipment issues.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with DCO, Reliability Engineering, Design, construction and vendors.
- Provide electrical expertise to support infrastructure reliability and incident response.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- 10–15 years of experience in electrical engineering within mission-critical infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of HV/MV/LV power distribution systems.
- Experience with UPS systems, battery systems, and diesel generators.
- Understanding of switchgear protection coordination and electrical system redundancy.
- Experience supporting electrical failure investigations and root cause analysis.
- Experience developing engineering standards and governance frameworks.
- Strong understanding of electrical safety and operational risk management.
- Experience working across multi-site or regional infrastructure portfolios preferred.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
