Blog- Achiever's Ski Trip
# #

As a reward for our employee's hard work, our top performers were treated to a weekend of luxury skiing in the French Alps for this year's Achiever's Ski Trip in Val Thorens. We caught up with Matt Askew to hear about his experiences during the trip. Matt was the lucky winner of our raffle ticket competition, a reward for his hard work which you can read all about below. The little twist to this comp - he only found out he won a few days before the team took off!

Congratulations on winning a spot on the Val Thorens ski trip through the raffle! What were your initial thoughts and emotions when you got the news you won?

It was a great feeling when I was chosen, the build-up had been very tense especially when more people earned their raffle tickets. I was on a business trip at the time, so I had to try and calm my reaction, but I was smiling and running around a conference in France for the rest of the day. Skiing is one of my favourite activities, so I was so happy to get on the trip!

Leading up to the announcement, you had to hit your target to qualify - can you walk us through the process of setting and striving to achieve your target, and any challenges you encountered along the way?

I was working closely with two new clients and we needed to deliver an excellent service to deliver on our promise, so I was making sure that I was keeping on top of our processes for both the candidate and client. For the clients, I did this by having weekly meetings and maintaining good communication with them. Having built close relationships with the candidates, I was familiar with their work styles and personalities, so I knew what to expect from them.

What was your favourite moment during the trip, and how does it feel knowing that your hard work led to this opportunity?

My favourite moment would have to be the final dinner, it was the perfect way to round up a really good day with everyone. The restaurant we went to was so good and everyone was just there having a good time with lots of drinks, great food, and a great atmosphere. It was really nice to be rewarded for everything that had gone into this leading-up.

Ski trips like this often contribute to team bonding and cohesion. How do you think this experience has strengthened your relationships with your colleagues, both on and off the slopes?

I would say that I feel a lot closer to the colleagues I went with. You get to see a different side of people; everyone is a little bit more relaxed when out of work, so it was a really good laugh. By the end, it felt a lot more like speaking with your friends rather than co-workers and directors.

Now that you've returned from Val Thorens, what lessons or insights do you think you'll take back to the workplace, and how do you envision these experiences impacting your professional growth moving forward?

Speaking with and spending time with the Senior Leadership team meant that I got to hear a lot about the direction the company is moving in – the ambitions of the business and other exciting projects that are coming up. It gives you a lot to look forward to and to work towards in the upcoming years!
