In our weekly blog series, we sit down each week with a different Thorite to get to know the people behind the scenes at Thor. From their career journeys to personal stories, this series will give you an inside look at the individuals who make our team so unique. This week, we have David Mitchell, a Recruitment Consultant from our Engineering Team.

1. What do you do at Thor?

I’m a Recruitment Consultant in the Critical Projects team, specialising in the data centre sector. My role involves connecting top talent with opportunities in this fast-growing and innovative industry.

2. What’s a project you’ve worked on that you’re particularly proud of?

I’ve had the privilege of helping established businesses expand into new areas, supporting their growth as they adapt to an evolving market. Contributing to these ventures and witnessing their success is incredibly rewarding.

3. What three skills are essential for success in your role?

Effective time management: Prioritising tasks and maintaining focus is critical in such a fast-paced environment.

Consistency: Keeping up with day-to-day and weekly tasks ensures progress and builds trust with clients and candidates.

Emotional control: Staying level-headed and composed, even during challenging moments, is key to maintaining professionalism and delivering results.

4. What’s the most valuable piece of advice you've received, in your career so far?

I’ve received some great advice from our Learning & Development Manager, Will: “Everything we do works, but nothing we do works every time.” It’s a reminder to stay resilient and adaptable, especially when faced with challenges.

5. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a professional athlete - whether as a footballer or an Olympian - or a wildlife conservationist.

6. What’s one thing on your bucket list?

Going on a Lions rugby tour is at the top of my list!

7. If you could have dinner with any person, past or present, who would it be and why?

Robin Williams. He was not only one of the funniest actors of all time but also deeply insightful. I think dinner with him would be both hilarious and incredibly inspiring.

8. If you could instantly master one skill, what would it be?

I’d love to master playing an instrument - the guitar, drums, or even the saxophone.

9. What’s a surprising fact about you?

I was the Surrey County Champion in both discus and hammer throwing.

We hope you enjoyed this glimpse into David's journey as much as we did!
