To celebrate our employees 3-year anniversary at Thor, our team members are given a Thor Passport. This gives them the opportunity to work from any of our offices for a week plus a £1000 contribution to cover the cost of travel and accommodation.
Harry Orme recently used his Thor Passport to visit our offices in NYC for his 3-year anniversary with us. Harry has been an essential member of our Engineering brand, Overseeing the delivery of high-quality candidates and client portfolio business development within the renewable energy sector across Europe, with a strong focus on the Scandinavian region.
We caught up with Harry on some of his highlights from the trip:
- After hitting my revenue targets as a rookie, I was able to go on the 2020 ski trip to Val Thorns fully paid for.
- I had the privilege of attending BD trips to Stockholm and Copenhagen. The experience of meeting candidates and clients in person can be so rewarding for personal development and elevating your stature in the market.
- It was amazing to celebrate how far the business has come at the AGM in Cannes. A 4-day trip, all paid for, with all our global offices in one place.
And of course, being able to use my Thor Passport – an amazing benefit to see how our other established office works and a chance to experience a different culture all via the business.
I have been lucky enough to visit Stockholm and Copenhagen previously and have never been to the US before, therefore NYC seemed an exciting opportunity for me to take advantage of. Additionally, the renewable energy market on the East coast of the US is a hot topic in the industry. I have current clients in this area, so I was able to network with them during my trip as well.
Not necessarily the office itself, but I had the pleasure of arranging a target client meeting in the Rockefeller Centre. This enabled me to build on existing relationships with the Danish renewables investment firm face-to-face and encourage future partnerships.

I have been able to explore the potential and kickstart conversations around expanding the renewables team into the US market. This is of course subject to the Director’s thoughts, but the possibility of being a part of the company's growth is always exciting.
I would say that the beginning is very much about getting the basics right and understanding the job, but as you progress, don’t be shy about displaying your growth mindset by offering ideas because that is how we can develop and better everyone’s careers.
Additionally, always take the opportunities to attend business trips and candidate meetings. The skills you acquire during these, will be valuable expertise you can carry with you throughout your career.
