We’re excited to welcome back Alex Onn, who’s rejoined Thor as a Senior Manager in our Engineering US division.
Based in our London office, Alex is now leading the team focused on mission-critical facilities – an area that continues to see huge growth across the US as the demand for data centres and critical infrastructure rises. We caught up with him to hear what brought him back to Thor, his thoughts on the industry, and his plans for the team moving forward.
Thor has always had a team feel and culture that’s unmatched anywhere else. There’s a genuine pulse running through the business, a collective ambition to grow, achieve big things, and enjoy the process along the way. That energy and positivity are what drew me back. The market is strong, the team is motivated, and I felt this was the perfect time to return and contribute to the journey. We’ve already seen what’s possible when people focus and perform, and now it’s about bringing that consistency and excellence across the board. Thor has the ambition to go out and meet clients, shake their hands, look into their eyes, and build relationships. In this market, which has no signs of slowing down, that is so important, so I am extremely excited to be a part of that.
You’re now leading our Engineering US team, specialising in mission-critical facilities – what excites you most about this area, and where do you see the biggest opportunities right now?The mission-critical space is fascinating - constantly growing and evolving year after year. The scale of the market is huge, and it sits right at the intersection between power and the modern digital world we live in. Every conversation feels exciting because it combines technical complexity with tangible global impact. There’s also an undeniable buzz in competing in such a dynamic US market - the standards are high, the fees are strong, and the opportunity to build something exceptional is massive. And, to be honest, billing in dollars while paying rent in pounds isn’t a bad setup either!
Demand for engineering talent in this space is only heading one way - up. As data usage and digital infrastructure expand, so does the need for highly skilled engineers who can design, build, and maintain these mission-critical environments. It’s creating a competitive landscape where companies need to move quickly, offer real value, and differentiate through quality. That’s where Thor can make a real impact - matching elite talent with projects that power the digital backbone of the modern world.
My focus is on setting and maintaining a standard that’s higher than the competition. Every conversation, email, process, and meeting should reflect the quality we stand for. I want the team to choose to enjoy the hard work - to embrace the challenge and take pride in the craft. Everything I’ve learned over the past six years will be shared across the group, and we’ll also be learning from our highly experienced colleagues in the US. Together, we can position ourselves to outperform the market and deliver exceptional results for our clients and candidates.
What are your goals for the Engineering US division over the next year, and how do you see Thor continuing to make an impact in this space? The goal is clear: to become the recognized data centre search firm of choice. Whether it’s owners, general contractors, private equity, or subcontractors, we want everyone in the sector to know the value we bring. Achieving that means having aligned ambitions, consistent processes, and a standard that can be replicated across teams. From there, it’s all about compounding - repeating high-quality actions, watching our impact grow, and seeing results multiply over time. It’s a principle I apply not just in business, but in everything - from earnings growth to improving my padel game. Consistency and compounding - that’s where the magic happens for me.
In short, Alex’s return marks an exciting chapter for Thor’s Engineering US team. His mix of high standards, industry insight and team-centred leadership reinforces our commitment to being the go-to partner in the mission critical and dat centre space. With Alex at the helm and the entire team aligned around consistency, quality and growth, we’re set to make a meaningful impact for both our candidates and our clients. We’re thrilled to have him back – and we can’t wait to see what we achieve next together.
