An Interview with: Biba Shaw

In our weekly blog series, we sit down each week with a different Thorite to get to know the people behind the scenes at Thor. From their career journeys to personal stories, this series will give you an inside look at the individuals who make our team so unique. This week, we have Biba Shaw, our Contract Service Specialist.

1. What do you do at Thor?

I’m the Contract Services Specialist at Thor.

2. What’s a project you’ve worked on that you’re particularly proud of?

Instead of highlighting one specific project, I am proud of the processes I have helped to create and implement in order to improve efficiency within the department and to support the sales team in succeeding.

3. What three skills are essential for success in your role?

Proactivity - prioritising tasks and ensuring all requests are dealt with efficiently and in a timely manner.

Communication skills - my role involves communicating with many different departments both internally and externally. It's key to build and maintain strong relationships across the business.

Meticulous - ensuring accuracy when drawing up contracts and reading through important documents.

4. What’s the most valuable piece of advice you've received, in your career so far?

Great things never came from comfort zones. Personal and professional development can involve many challenges, which may result in having to take risks and step out of what feels comfortable.

5. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Either a songwriter or a backup dancer for Britney Spears!

6. What’s one thing on your bucket list?

Run all the world major marathons.

7. If you could have dinner with any person, past or present, who would it be and why?

Amy Winehouse - she was an incredibly gifted musician and a once-in-a-generation talent. I'm sure she would have some great stories to share!

8. If you could instantly master one skill, what would it be?

I would love to master running a sub-3 hour marathon! It would be an amazing achievement and enable me to qualify for most major races.

9. What’s a surprising fact about you?

I was cast as an extra in the film "Trainspotting 2" where I spent the day dancing to Queen songs alongside the actors. After a long and tiring day filming, I decided that would be the start and end of my career as an actress!
