In our weekly blog series, we sit down each week with a different Thorite to get to know the people behind the scenes at Thor. From their career journeys to personal stories, this series will give you an inside look at the individuals who make our team so unique. This week, we have James Gorman, one of our Managing Directors.
I am one of the Managing Directors here at Thor, leading our Life Sciences division.
One of the biggest milestones in my career was opening Thor’s first international office in New York in 2017. It was a massive step for the company, expanding our footprint beyond the UK and into one of the most competitive recruitment markets in the world. The process was both thrilling and challenging - navigating a new business environment, building a team from the ground up, and ensuring our culture translated across borders.

"You've got two ears and one mouth: The art of listening is key."
Famous! Like many kids, I had big dreams of being in the spotlight - I just hadn’t quite figured out how I was going to get there!
I’m determined to get my golf handicap under 10 in the next two years. It’s a sport that demands patience, skill, and a lot of practice - much like business. It’s also a great way to unwind and challenge myself outside of work.
Without a doubt, Pep Guardiola - he is a living legend! I’d love to pick his brain on motivation, mindset, and what it takes to sustain success at the highest level.
To speak Spanish. My wife is from the Dominican Republic, so having not yet mastered the language, I'm set to be the brunt of many jokes between her and our future kids...!
During our last holiday in St Martin in the Carribean, my wife and I picked up a stray dog from the side of the road, nursed her back to health with the help of a local vet and flew her back to New York to live with us.
We hope you enjoyed this glimpse into James's journey as much as we did!
