In our weekly blog series, we sit down each week with a different Thorite to get to know the people behind the scenes at Thor. From their career journeys to personal stories, this series will give you an inside look at the individuals who make our team so unique. This week, we have Matt Ramos, a Manager from our Teknologi team.

1. What do you do at Thor?

I manage the technology markets and go-to-market offerings for IT across Europe.

2. What’s a project you’ve worked on that you’re particularly proud of?

We've tackled some challenging searches recently, but with a key client in Stuttgart, we've successfully filled every role they’ve entrusted to us. Along the way, we’re building an honest and strong partnership for the future. Every position in our market comes to us exclusively, and it’s rewarding to know our efforts are valued. Even better, we’re playing a key role in a major digital transformation that will streamline their business processes and help propel them into the future.

3. What three skills are essential for success in your role?

Resilience is essential for any billing manager. We're constantly putting our emotions on the line—not just for ourselves, but for our team as well. When things don’t go as planned, no matter how much effort we’ve put in, it’s crucial to focus forward and channel that energy into future opportunities.

Equally important are transparency and organisation, especially in keeping everyone updated, both internally and externally. Too often, recruiters neglect to share valuable feedback or insights with candidates and clients, missing out on opportunities to support their long-term success.

Finally, it’s critical that my team understands the ‘why’ behind their workload—not only what it means for their professional growth but also how it shapes our professional image and reputation.

4. What’s the most valuable piece of advice you've received, in your career so far?

No one’s bigger than the team. A successful business is built on the dedication of a motivated workforce all pulling in the same direction. To scale effectively, egos must be set aside, and success should be driven by clear milestones and roadmaps that everyone understands and can work toward.

5. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Professional tennis player - gone are the days where I have time to practice!

6. What’s one thing on your bucket list?

Visit Japan - I've had trips planned that had to be cancelled and finding the time for a significant trip like this is difficult. I've always been fascinated by Japanese culture, food and history.

7. If you could have dinner with any person, past or present, who would it be and why?

MF DOOM - late rapper, philosopher, and genius. I’ve never been inspired by anyone outside my family as much as him. Beyond his humble upbringing, which offers perspective on my own life, the way he weaves together classic references to society and history while appealing to my literary background is pure genius!

8. If you could instantly master one skill, what would it be?

One skill I’ve been working on and continue to refine is the ability to remain calm and detach emotions from the decisions I make. By doing this, the reasoning and logic behind my choices become clearer and more transparent to those I’m speaking with. In a work setting, it’s important to sometimes set aside gut instincts, pride, and external influences that can lead to emotional decisions. While emotional intelligence and thinking with your heart are valuable, I’ve found that being more level-headed generally leads to better outcomes for everyone involved. This approach is just as relevant in personal relationships, family matters, and negotiations across different areas of life.

9. What’s a surprising fact about you?

Despite sounding like the most British person of all time, I truly identify as a Spaniard and have no roots to the UK at all. I'm proud of my Spanish heritage and one day hope to open and run a restaurant in Galicia/El País Vasco.

We hope you enjoyed this glimpse into Matt's journey as much as we did!
