In our weekly blog series, we sit down each week with a different Thorite to get to know the people behind the scenes at Thor. From their career journeys to personal stories, this series will give you an inside look at the individuals who make our team so unique. This week, we have Rory Douglas, one of our Engineering Consultants.
I work as an engineering consultant, primarily focusing on process and automation engineering.
One of my most rewarding projects was working with a startup that had a critical hiring need. They were developing new technology and required a very niche specialist to bring their vision to life. I reached out and helped them secure the right person, setting them up for success in the following year. Without this hire, they wouldn’t have been able to move forward with their projects. It was a great feeling to know that my work directly contributed to their growth and innovation.

The importance of building relationships and networking. In recruitment, it’s not just about filling a role - it’s about creating connections that last. Whether it’s with clients, candidates, or colleagues, strong relationships make all the difference. A conversation today might turn into an opportunity months or even years down the line.
A palaeontologist - dinosaurs are cool! I was a total dinosaur nerd as a kid (probably still am).
To visit every rainforest.
David Attenborough. His work documenting the natural world is absolutely inspiring, and he’s played such a huge role in raising awareness about conservation. I’d love to sit down with him, listen to his stories, and hear his thoughts on the future of the planet. He’s a true icon.
Perfect memory. Being able to absorb and recall everything I learn would be a game-changer - whether it’s for work, general knowledge, or just remembering where I put my keys!
I have a physics degree!
We hope you enjoyed this glimpse into Rory's journey as much as we did!
