In our weekly blog series, we sit down each week with a different Thorite to get to know the people behind the scenes at Thor. From their career journeys to personal stories, this series will give you an inside look at the individuals who make our team so unique. This week, we have Sydney Bushberg, a Senior Consultant from our Life Sciences team based in our NY office.

1. What do you do at Thor?

I am one of the Senior Recruitment Consultants here at Thor in our Life Sciences team.

2. What’s a project you’ve worked on that you’re particularly proud of?

Recently, I successfully re-engaged with two of our former clients and independently managed the recruitment process for them. It was a rewarding challenge to rebuild those professional relationships, understand their unique needs, and deliver results by filling critical roles. The experience showcased my ability to handle complex projects with persistence, professionalism, and attention to detail.

3. What three skills are essential for success in your role?

Persistence, organization and creativity.

4. What’s the most valuable piece of advice you've received, in your career so far?

The importance of managing emotions in sales. Early in my career, I found it challenging to separate emotions from work. Learning to take a more balanced approach has allowed me to focus my energy on productive aspects of the job, like strategy and relationship-building, rather than becoming overly invested in outcomes beyond my control.

5. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

As a child, I dreamed of becoming an Olympic gymnast. I was inspired by their dedication, discipline, and incredible achievements. Whilst life took me in a different direction, I still admire the spirit and determination that gymnastics represents.

6. What’s one thing on your bucket list?

I would love to travel around Australia and New Zealand, exploring the stunning landscapes, incredible wildlife and really immersing myself in the local cultures. They are on the other side of the world, so it would be a truly unique experience for me.

7. If you could have dinner with any person, past or present, who would it be and why?

If I could choose, I’d love to have dinner with Stevie Nicks. She’s an iconic musician whose career and life stories are endlessly fascinating. From her journey with Fleetwood Mac to her solo career, Stevie is a true legend, and I’d cherish the opportunity to hear her wisdom and tales of a life filled with creativity and adventure.

8. If you could instantly master one skill, what would it be?

I really have no rhythm so it would have to be dancing!

9. What’s a surprising fact about you?

I am the only person in my entire family without a middle name.

We hope you enjoyed this glimpse into Sydney's journey as much as we did!
