The Crown Estate recently announced it has signed agreements for the lease of six offshore wind projects, The completion of these agreements is seen as a direct outcome of the Offshore Wind Leasing Round 4 project.

Now with a total of 41GW of awarded rights from The Crown Estate, these additional projects could begin to generate renewable energy in the next 10 years and have the capacity to produce c.8GW of green electricity, the equivalent amount needed to power over 7 million homes.

Such projects will further the development of a world-class offshore wind market in the UK, currently capable of powering roughly 41% of homes and is the greatest source of renewable electricity in the UK.

Following the signage of these leasing agreements, developers will be able to go ahead with planning sustainable projects. Of which, will significantly contribute towards the Government’s 2030 objective to generate 50GW in offshore wind.

Out of these six projects, three are located off the coast of North Wales, Cumbria and Lancashire. The remaining three are in the North Sea off the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire coast (see below).

The UK’s offshore wind achievements to date are nothing short of remarkable, and this next generation of projects point to an even more exciting and dynamic future.
