At the end of March, Thor’s leadership team headed to Val Thorens for our first-ever Leadership Ski Summit. Building on the tradition of our annual ski trip, this year we added a new focus: strategy, alignment, and leadership development. In this blog, we share why we launched the summit, what we learned, and how it’s already making an impact across the business.
At the end of March, our leadership and management team packed their bags (and their skis) and made their way to the snowy peaks of Val Thorens for Thor Companies’ first-ever Leadership Ski Summit.
Our annual ski trip has always been a highlight of the Thor calendar - a chance for teams across the business to connect, celebrate, and enjoy time together outside the office. But this year, we took it a step further: carving out dedicated time for strategy, leadership development, and open conversations about the future of our business.
It was four unforgettable days of big ideas, honest discussions, shared vision - and, admittedly, some slightly shaky skiing.
At Thor, we believe leadership isn’t just about hitting targets - it’s about taking a step back to see the bigger picture.
While our senior leaders spend their days driving performance, supporting their teams, and reacting to a fast-moving market, we wanted to give them something different: time.
Time to reflect, reset, and realign. Time to talk openly about the challenges and opportunities ahead. Time to strengthen relationships and sharpen our shared vision.
The Leadership Ski Summit was designed to create that space, building on the spirit of our annual ski trip, but with a new layer of purpose and focus.
Throughout the summit, we combined structured sessions with open discussions. Presentations helped frame key topics - like growth strategy, cross-market collaboration, and leadership development - but the real value came from the conversations they sparked.
Rather than simply delivering updates, we encouraged honest dialogue: listening, challenging, and building on each other’s ideas. We explored what success looks like across different teams and regions. We discussed how to scale sustainably while keeping our culture strong. We reflected on the evolving needs of our clients, candidates, and employees - and how Thor can continue to be a business that people are proud to be part of.
These conversations weren’t always easy, but they were energising. Because true alignment doesn’t come from surface-level agreement; it comes from open, sometimes tough, conversations that lead to real clarity.
Of course, it wasn’t all strategy sessions.
Between meetings, we shared dinners, took on the slopes (with mixed results!), and had countless moments of laughter and connection. These moments matter just as much as the formal agenda because culture isn’t built in boardrooms; it’s built in the small, human moments that form lasting relationships.
For many, the summit was also a rare opportunity to connect in person with colleagues from other markets. Those face-to-face conversations help build trust, empathy, and a stronger sense of belonging, reminding us that while we may work in different sectors, we’re all part of the same team, working towards the same goals.
Since returning, the impact of the summit has already been felt across the business. There’s a renewed sense of focus, momentum, and shared purpose among our leadership team.
Ideas that were born in Val Thorens are now turning into tangible action plans: new initiatives, improved ways of working, and fresh thinking about how we support both our people and our clients.
Most importantly, there’s a stronger sense of unity because we’re not just aligned on targets, but on the values and vision that will drive Thor’s next stage of growth.
Our annual ski trip remains one of our favourite traditions at Thor, but this year’s Leadership Ski Summit marks the start of something new.
Moving forward, this summit will be a cornerstone of how we lead: taking intentional time each year to step back, refocus, and challenge ourselves to be better - both as individuals and as a team.
We’re incredibly proud of the culture we’re building, and excited for what’s ahead. Here’s to sharper strategy, stronger leadership, and more skiing next year.
