Our AGM this year was an unforgettable event! Not only did it celebrate twelve years of Thor Companies, but it also brought our global team together. We had colleagues from all over the world join us in London for a day of presentations, networking, and celebrating our successes. In this blog post, we'll share some of the highlights from the AGM, including our company's key goals for the next three years, an inspiring speech by a guest speaker, and the winners of our annual awards.
This year’s AGM was truly an incredible event. We had colleagues from the US, South Africa, Sweden and Switzerland join us in person, and for some of them, it was their first time travelling abroad. The excitement was electric in our London office as we prepared to welcome them and share ideas. It was a fantastic opportunity to get to know each other better without the geographical gap and to forge connections with team members we had not met in person before.
And what a setting we chose! The AGM was held at the iconic Shard, offering breathtaking views over London. The combination of the venue, the atmosphere, and the shared excitement amongst colleagues made this year’s meeting an experience we will cherish for years to come.
Our founder and CEO, Nick Sym took us on a journey, reflecting on the incredible growth and resilience of Thor over the last few years. He acknowledged our accomplishments over the past 12 months, from successfully leveraging technology and data to prioritising exceptional people and services—things we can really be proud of that help create an inspiring and positive work environment.
Looking ahead to the next three years, we were presented with the company’s key goals, all centred on making Thor a world-class recruitment company. The message was clear: Thor will continue to thrive through teamwork and a collective dedication to upholding the company’s mission and vision.
Denis Coakley, our Finance Director, didn’t just present the figures; he also outlined our ambitious targets for the upcoming year. By illustrating our definition of success through the financial achievements of internal team members, Denis made it clear that everyone has a personal role to play in the business's success in the next financial year. This way of articulating financial performance left everyone feeling connected and integral to our future growth.
Our Director of Corporate Services, Jenny Godbold discussed how we will make progress towards the three-year plan and Thor’s commitment to its employees. She stressed the importance of our clients and candidates being at the heart of everything we do, and announced the launch of our CSR & EDI page on the website. Jenny emphasised the importance of fostering a high-performing culture, noting that with the right attitude, employees can achieve a “rocket career” and go far if they want it enough.
Chris Singleton, Co-Founder and COO delved deeper into the internal changes that will help us smash our future goals, emphasising a bit of friendly competition to push each other further. This is where the newly established Thor House Cup will come in – think Harry Potter meets The Hunger Games, but way more deadly!
We were honoured to welcome guest speaker Danny Crates, a former Paralympic track and field athlete who competed in two Paralympic Games. Danny’s story is one of incredible resilience and determination. He openly shared his inspiring journey, detailing how he overcame the life-altering experience of losing his arm in a car crash at the young age of 21. His message was powerful and deeply resonated with the audience. Danny spoke about his belief that everything happens for a reason, and that even subtle changes can make a profound difference. He emphasised the importance of trusting the process and focusing on daily improvement, even if it's just 1% each day.
Danny’s message extends far beyond the world of athletics, urging everyone to step outside their comfort zones and embrace new challenges. His story served as a powerful reminder that with unwavering determination and a focus on continuous improvement, even the most daunting goals can be achieved.
Halfway through the AGM we took a short break from the presentations for interval drinks at Hutong, one of the stunning restaurants in The Shard. This gave everyone the opportunity to mingle and network while reflecting on the presentations so far. It was also a great chance to chat with Danny himself, as he was available to answer any questions we had.
As with any good AGM, we finished off the day with the big reveal – the winners of this year’s Thor Awards!
Top Biller - Contract went to Tine Iversen,
Top Biller - Permanent to Hanna Åström,
Jack Walsh took home the trophy for Top Rookie,
And the Director's Pick was awarded to Aaron Breslin.
But the celebrations weren’t over yet! We had two very special ten-year milestones that needed celebrating. Huge congratulations to Marcus Godbold, our Managing Director of Engineering, and Luke Cunliffe, the Data and Technology Manager.
The emphasis at this year’s AGM on exceptional people and fostering a high-performing culture underscores Thor's dedication to its employees, clients and candidates. This focus translates into a commitment to finding the best fit for both clients and candidates.
The focus on teamwork across international teams creates a dynamic and supportive environment for both Thor employees and the candidates they place. This collaborative spirit fosters a culture of continuous improvement, allowing Thor to refine its processes and deliver exceptional service to clients.
A huge shoutout to Jess Wing, our Operations Specialist, who spearheaded the AGM preparation. Her thorough planning and dedication ensured that everything ran smoothly, and everyone was able to get the most from their day.
As we finished at The Shard, buzzing from the excitement of the day’s presentations, we all headed to the historic Anchor. It was a fantastic opportunity to relax with colleagues and reflect on a truly special day. With the sun shining down on us, we celebrated until the late evening and created some truly unforgettable moments. Bring on Thor’s AGM 2025!
